Does it matter if the carpenter who installed the additional roof on the garden building is not a qualified roofer?
I had an additional roof put on my garden building by a carpenter who told me he could do the job. Turned out it was a bad install exposed by the rain which left massive puddles on the roof for days so I contacted him to sort it out, he came back several times without success and eventually made excuses etc and ignored me. I got 2 roofing companies round to take a look and they both said it shocking work. I got a report from one company which contains photos of the bad work and a damming description of the work which I sent to him, again he ignored me. I have started a money claim against him and at the last minute he put up a defence saying I knew he wasn’t a qualified roofer, does it matter he’s not a qualified roofer? TIA

NQ He entered into either an oral or written contractual agreement with you, so his qualifications, or lack of them, are probably irrelevant in law. I would think that what matters in law is whether he provided you with either an oral or written undertaking that he would complete the job to a professional standard
