Is it legal for a boss to require employees to work long hours if it is not feasible for them to commute?
Hello, my fellow londoners. I am not British so I'm a bit unfamiliar with working rights here in the UK. I work in a shop in central London, along 4 more shop assistants and manager. Only one of us could make it walking (~45 mins) to the shop, but the rest live in outskirts London and it wouldn't be feasible for them (~3h in a bus each trip the shortest) to come to work. Our boss (who does not live in London and it's not coming) pretends us to try and make it here to work ~9h, even if we loose around 6-8h on transport. She's said that we would be forced to take it out of our holidays if we can't make it. My question is... is this fair? Can they do it? Is there any way we could protest or any complain we could fill? I'd massively thank any advice or information. Cheers, An anonymous working Londoner.

Fair is something for a different sub. It's legal for the employer. The employer has no requirement to do anything to mitigate the effects of the strike action. They could simply apply a holiday for you, if they so wished.

They either give you a holiday or don't pay you if you don't go in. They're under no obligation to pay you because of the strike.
