Is it legal for a company to interview someone from outside the company for a promotion that was originally advertised internally?
Hi I wonder if anyone can advise. I applied for a promotion within my company (advert was advertised and I applied through the normal channels etc). My manager then came to speak to me a few days later to say they don’t think I am experienced enough just yet but they will progress me to this job. (There is only 1 of these roles). She also said if someone else does apply in the meantime they will interview us both to compare. Today I have found out that they in fact interviewed someone from outside the company and offered them the role. Obviously I feel that I have been dumped off from a great height as I’ve been taking on more responsibility etc getting ready for this role. Is this legal? Or is it something that is rubbish but I just have to accept? Thanks
