What is the best course of action for someone on Universal Credit whose benefits have been stopped after going over the one month limit to visit a sick relative abroad: appeal when they return or start a new claim?
Hiya, my friend has gone abroad to visit a very sick relative, she receives Universal credit and has gone for 3 days over the one month limit so her benefits have been stopped. What would be the best course of action appeal when she's back or start a new claim for UC? Thank you.

Nq. I would advise to appeal via extenuating circumstances. Your friend can chat to UC via the journal option on their account and they should be able to advise the process.

NQ did she ask before she went? And they will want to know why she couldn't come back on time. She needs to show why she had to stay longer so maybe flight delayed, no local flight etc
