What is the best way to quit a job while avoiding any legal repercussions?

Long story short I am at breaking point. I need to leave my job with immediate effect but how can avoid any court proceedings re contract breach? I am bound by 4 weeks notice but I just cannot do it.

NQ: Depends if a notice period is outlined in your contract. You can hand your notice in + discuss with HR to negotiate how much time you could reduce thos by. If you have holiday left, might be ideal to raise this with them, that you take your leave. However, walking out, could reflect negatively on you.

NQ If things are that bad, is it worth speaking to your doctor and asking if they will sign you off? How suitable that is for you will depend on your sickness pay policy etc but it’s one option.

HR manager - Depends on your reason for leaving and position. Often to pursue breach of contract claims isn't worth it to the company if costs likely to outweighs gain.

Ex-employer. It is highly unlikely that the employer will take you to court- it's just too expensive, time consuming and take too long to get to Court.
