Sonay Erten
Sonay is a solicitor advocate specialising in defamation and reputation management.
She decided to study law at University in 2008, after an impulsive decision based around a need for justice and helping people. After a rollercoaster of a journey which included graduating from Queen Mary, University of London with an LLB and shortly after an LLM in Medical Law, stints in a number of different roles including recruitment, customer service, sales and marketing, moving from London to York and. back again; she trained and qualified at Central London firm, Saracens Solicitors.
Her desire to help people translated into her chosen areas of practice: litigation and personal injury which she continued to work in for 6 years. She now specialises in defamation and reputation management and has advised and represented authors, political figures, dance professionals and entrepreneurs, to name a few. She has also acted on cases against the MailOnline, The Times, the BBC, the Daily Telegraph and The Spectator.
Sonay likes to use an empathic approach to her work, supporting her clients as well as cooperating with opponents to ensure matters are resolved in the most cost-effective way possible. She is fascinated by rules and procedure and so will leave no stone unturned to find the best result for her client. Her experiences in a variety of industries help her better understand the commercial and personal needs of her clients.
With a keen interest in public speaking, Sonay became very interested in advocacy and representing clients at court early on in her career. As a trainee solicitor, she appeared before Deputy District and District Judges to obtain orders for her clients. She then went on to complete her Higher Rights of Audience assessments whilst still a trainee solicitor which allowed her to be in the rare position of receiving her Higher Rights of Audience accreditation as soon as she qualified. She has since represented clients in County Courts and the High Court. Whilst she is a strong believer in prevention or early resolution of disputes, where court attendance is required, she can represent clients at all courts.
